Content Management Systems: WordPress

WordPress is a content management system focused on the creation of blogs. It is developed in PHP and MySQL under the GPL and its is founder Matt Mullenweg. The reasons for its tremendous growth are, among others, license, its ease of use and features.

Another reason to consider about its success and expansion, is the huge community of developers and designers, who are responsible for developing it in general or create plugins and themes for the community. The lead developer Matt Mullenweg chose the name WordPress at the suggestion of a friend (Christine Selleck).

Easier management of pages out of chronological order into simple weblog and was the first step to transforming basic software management system into a complete content management system (CMS).

Another great aspect of the popular CMS is its templating system (themes) which allow the user to enable or disable one or the other as they wish for their sites. WordPress has also been fitted as standard with a new default template (codenamed Kubrick) in addition to the traditional and original “Classic”.

Developers

WordPress development is led by Ryan Boren and Matt Mullenweg. Mullenweg and Mike Little were the founders of the project. WordPress developers are:

    * Dougal Campbell
    * Mark Jaquith
    * Donncha Ó Caoimh
    * Andy Skelton
    * Michel Valdrighi
    * Peter Westwood

Although much of the project has been developed by the community around WordPress, it is still associated with Automattic, the company with which some of the major contributors of WordPress are employed.

Its community include testers, a group of people voluntarily putting time and effort to test each release. They have access to versions still under development (known as nightly builds), Beta versions and release candidates. Upgrading to these versions, they can find errors and report them to a special mailing list. or the bug tracking system based on Trac.

Structure

    * WordPress, in principle, is a web publishing system based on entries by date, among many other possibilities as well as static pages.
    * The structure and visual design of the site depends on the template system.
    * WordPress philosophy is firmly committed to elegance, simplicity and recommendations of the W3C but always dependent on the template under use. Classic, for example is a template that is standard and is valid as (X) HTML Transitional and CSS.
    * Separate content and layout in XHTML and CSS, though, as said, depends on the template you are using. However, the code tries to generate the entries (“posts”) commitment to forcing this feature-if you choose-a sharp right.
    * The management and is implemented by the management system with plugins and widgets that use the templates.

Content Creation question by Dave A: What is the easiest content management system to use?
I need a free CMS that is so simple to use that it’s nearly intuitive – or as close to intuitive as I can get.

I have clients who insist on managing their own web site but cannot adhere to design rules when editing the HTML… mostly because editing the HTML is beyond the scope of their abilities and they don’t have time to learn it all.

I need something that allows for adding images, editing text and renaming links… page creation is not necessary.

You can try Joomla.

WordPress as CMS

Featured

On of the most common questions is “Why do you use wordpress as CMS (Content Management System)?
People see wordpress as a script for online blogs and journals, however they do not realize that wordpress went far from just a blog. We use wordpress because its rich in features, more than 10.000 extensions, you name it, they have it all: contact forms, maps, testimonials, forums, photo galleries and online shop.

But the biggest reason i LOVE wordpress is because its easy to make it search engine friendly.
I believe that everyone knows why SEO is important :-) If not, I ll explain in the next blog.

Why do we need a website?

Featured

Every business needs to have a website – and i will explain 3 main reasons websites are made for.

1. Information/Reference website

Clients call you and ask for some information, you just tell them to check your website…
Simple as that :-)

Why whould you want to have a website like that?

1. It saves you time (you do not need to explain every single thing about what you do or offer)
2. It saves money (you do not need to fax or post information pack to client)
3. Nice looking website will make you look more professional.
4. That kind of websites are cheap as cheaps.
but thats about it. no more advantages. so lets have a look at second  website type.

2. Create new leads, bring new customers and provide information.

Very similar to information website, but we need to bring clients to it, we want our potential clients to find it easily.
How we going to do it? the answer is Search Engine.

Search engines generate whole traffic on the internet, without search engines the web would die.
Sounds nice and easy ? oh yeh … but we have a small problem search engine can only show 10 results on one page, and we want to be the first.
so.. here is what we call SEO  (Search Engine Optimization). We look at your website, check all keywords and meta data, we check the search statistics plus your competition websites, and we do a better optimization than they are.  please remember that SEO is not as easy as pay $$$ and get first listings.

Why SEO is important ?

1. It brings genuine clients (clients that are looking for you or your services/product)
2. It brings free traffic ( Not pay per click )

Why would we want our website SEO friendly?

Because if your website has good position in Search Engine, you will stop looking for clients, they will find you.
The biggest mistake we all do is that we try to find clients, we offer our services for everyone with the hope that they need it. (just like a telemarketing :-)
But imaging that clients who want your services will find you on the internet and call you.

3. Thirs type of websites are e-commerce (online shop)
I love online shops, you can purchase the product you want at any time and from anywhere.
BUT…. Why i really love online shops is because when i sleep, eat or travel,  someone is buying my products.

At the end a little bit of

Sad statistics.

99% of all websites on the internet are ……. worthless, because clients can not find it, the website is crap, or its simply full of errors and doesn’t open properly.
